Abounding in Giving.!

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭9:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

A lot of people always quote in prayer, the scripture above, for God to make all grace abound toward them; that they have sufficiency in all things, full stop. They neglect the "that they may abound to every good works" part.

See previous post here: Obedience in Prayer!!

In context, the scripture is not a "prayer for need" scripture. It is not a surplus supply of need scripture, in that sense. It is actually a prayer to be "bleesed to be a blessing" scripture. Every good work in this verse refers to giving to others, which is our seed sown as we can see in the next verse (2Cor9:9).

 The whole of the chapter (2Cor9),  is centred on giving: help for needy believers. We are admonished to give. For as believers it is our way of life.

In giving, we have to;

  • Give as we are led by the Holy Spirit, as the spirit of God ministers in our heart.

  • Give not as a sense of duty but because we love God.

  • Give delightfully, giving with a glad and cheerful heart.

  • Give unto many, giving bountifully and lavishly.

  • Give sacrificially.

  • And most importantly, give with this in mind, that harvest is sure.

We also need to know that in giving;

  • We change the lives of others: For God so loved tha world that he gave Christ and by this our lives are changed forever. (John3:16)

  • It is an extension of Love, God's love in us. God loves us, he gave. We love God, we give. We are an extension of God's love nature. (John3:16

  •  It is a confirmation of the life of God in us, when we love the brethren through giving. (1John3:14

  • It brings harvest along with it. It brings blessings back to us. (Luke6:38

  • It converts our earthly substances to heavenly treasures. (Matt19:21)

“You should each give, then, as you have decided, not with regret or out of a sense of duty; for God loves the one who gives gladly. And God is able to give you more than you need, so that you will always have all you need for yourselves and more than enough for every good cause. As the scripture says, “He gives generously to the needy; his kindness lasts forever.” And God, who supplies seed for the sower and bread to eat, will also supply you with all the seed you need and will make it grow and produce a rich harvest from your generosity. He will always make you rich enough to be generous at all times, so that many will thank God for your gifts which they receive from us.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭9:7-11‬ ‭GNT‬‬

Make it a point of action to culture a giving habit starting today and with the proper orientation, from the word of God. Stay blessed and stay blessing.
